Democracy is incompatible with the persistent problems of tainted party primaries and divisive party candidacies in Nigeria’s modern political environment. The People Democratic Party, for example, has been fighting non-transparent party primaries, a wave of party cross-carpeting, super-imposition of candidates and post-election litigations Since 1999.
These intricacies can be linked to the party leaders’ failure to follow the institutional guidelines that govern party primaries in Nigeria. Flagrant impunity and reckless imposition of candidates against the will and wishes of its teeming members across the length and breadth of Nigeria were the major factors that contributed in different scenarios political parties defeat including the PDP.
Plateau have in recent times been on the news bearing different unceremonious captions due to failure of leadership to live to the expectations of the people most importantly those are the grassroots. The emergenciee of His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has changed the ugly Narratives in the State by rekindling once again the lost hope of the despondents.
However, the historic milestone of the supreme court judgement on the Local Governments autonomy in Nigeria has open a new pages of discussion in the nation democracy. Many are are anticipating good governance at their doorsteps with the Local Governments stand to receive directly their allocations from the Federation account.
I compelled as a concern citizen of Nigeria from Bokkos Local Government to draw the attention of our party leaders and stakeholders including all those that matters on the urgent need to allow character and credibility to prevail during the forthcoming PDP primaries. My reasons are not beyond the love and passion for a better future of our local government where the youths held sway.
Hon. Maren Ishaku ( Yobo) is no doubt the most popular candidate and unifier that is accepted by all beyond the edges of either tribes or religion. Having served as the member of the Plateau State of House of Assembly and until the appeal court judgement was a leader in the Assembly. He is one who understands the dynamics and the challenges confronting the local Government.
Beyond a legislature, he is a reformer and unifier who was able to achieved and attracted many projects within the shortest possible time that he served as the Member Representing the good people of Bokkos Constituency for only five months from the day he was sworn in. These projects are worth scrutinizing for the purpose of history and documentation. Purchase of high power transformer and electrifying Kunet community, Reconstruction of collapsed Bridge between follow and Danbukur.
Reconstruction of Relaxation Centre which is popularity known as Gossip Centre in Plateau State University Bokkos, Repairing of NEPA Tudu-Newlayout Transformer all in Bokkos LGA, Sponsoring Numerous Projects and Engaging fully in public service delivery and
Numerous welfare palliative to the IDPS in various centers in Bokkos LGA among to many to mention legacies but few.
Many shared the opinion that , the greatest mistake the PDP will ever make is have a different person on the ticket other than Yobo. Both the old ,women and the youths are on this page with a strong conviction that ,he is capable to handle the current multidimensional challenges ranging from security to economy of the local Government.
Another important factor that ought to guide the PDP stakeholders is Yobo's wide followership and acceptance across the boards will be an easy ride for the party during secondary elections. This acceptability he enjoys will make the peace building process of Governor Mutfwang more easily at the local Government.
One thing is clear, let not deminish the popularity of our great party in Bokkos Local Government and Create an avenue for an opposition political party to win the chairmanship. Let us not again, destroy the hard labour of our heroes past who built the party on the foundations of justice, fairness and equity.
The first Civilian Governor of our dear State, Late Solomon Lar was a member of the founding foundations of the party called PDP that all of us enjoy today on the Plateau. Therefore the need to preserve and protect what they have left behind is by ensuring that ,the people will is respected and followed.
Unless the party does this, its dream of winning the forthcoming local Government elections in Bokkos will be another documented illusion to be read. Accordingly, the party’s internal processes serve as a major foundation for its survival, efficacy, and buoyancy in next LGs elections. I am confident Governor Mutfwang will not sacrifice the best to please some anonymous and vested interest groups in Bokkos Local Government.
People first.
